Some people are having trouble connecting to their websites. Some possibilities.
Verifying you exist
Reclaim sends you an email after a couple of weeks, to verify you're real. You probably are.
If your site works for a couple of weeks, then doesn't, this may be the problem. This looks like a wifi network problem, but isn't.
You have to click on a link in an email from Reclaim. To resend the email, log in to Reclaim (don't go to cPanel), and see if there's a warning on the screen about verifying. There may be warnings about other things, too.
If you don't see the email, check your email spam folder. Google how to check that if you don't know.
Dorms
The wifi in the dorms is a different network from the rest of campus. It blocks many things.
Solutions:
- Use Grizznet somewhere else on campus.
- Phone preview
Grizznet is the main network on campus. The dorms use another network, called Grizzlies. There are others, too, like Grizznet Guest.
Grizzlies (in the dorms) may block your website. Suppose your website is goatsrock.com. You will be able to log in to Reclaim from your dorm room. You will be able to upload files to your server through cPanel on Reclaim. However, when you try to check your work, goatsrock.com may be blocked.
If you are in the dorms and cannot see your site, there are two solutions.
First, you can carry your laptop to the library (or somewhere else on campus). Disconnect from Grizzlies (the dorm net) and connect to Grizznet (the main net). Everything should work.
Second, use your phone. Turn off wifi on our phone. Check your site on your phone, goatsrock.com or whatever. Turn wifi back on when you are done.
You will need to be careful that you submit the right URL on your PC when you submit an exercise through the textbook, the URL that works on your phone. One way is to copy the URL that works on your phone, paste it into an email to yourself you send from your phone, open the email on your PC, then paste the URL from the email into the textbook's exercise submission form. There are faster ways, but this works.
You can also use your phone to connect your computer to the internet. Temporarily turn off the Grizzlies network on your PC. Set up your phone as a wifi hotspot, or link your phone to your PC with a cable. Then use your phone as your computer's network. Google for instructions for your particular phone.
Other campus network problems
Ack! Sometimes OU adds new tools to network security. They can give you privacy errors. If you can see your site on your phone, OU's network may be the problem. See Phone preview (below).
Reclaim error
For one student, Reclaim hadn't connected the domain he bought correctly. The symptom is that, when you login to Reclaim (don't go to cPanel) the number of domains you have is zero. You need to contact Reclaim tech support for this.
Argh!
